No Soul Train Awards

Written by Celebrity Blogger on April 17, 2008 – 11:30 am -

There will be no Soul Train awards this year.

I know you are so disappointed.

But seriously, I always liked the awards, I just never knew when they were on. They never did a good job of promoting it in my opinion.

This would have been the 22nd year.

“Soul Train” ended in 2006, I didn’t know that either.

Obama on a Hot Tin Roof

Written by Celebrity Blogger on March 4, 2008 – 11:03 am -

I feel like I’m writing about Barack Obama every day.

My goodness!

Well the latest, aside from that Ohio and Texas primary, is that he and his wife Michelle are expected to attend opening night at “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”

In case you didn’t know, this play is the first production led by an all-black cast to be authorized by playwright Tennessee Williams’ estate. It features TerranceBaby WipesHoward, James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad and Anika Noni Rose.

My question is, why are people revealing Barack’s personal schedule like that? You can bet the Secret Service will be there in full force.

Denzel and Paulette Washington, Spike Lee, Bill and Camille Cosby, and Will Smith and Jada are also expected to attend.

Better late than never.

Last week Jada Pinkett Smith was honored at the First Annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon. You already know that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were in attendance. I think that’s nice.

According to a press release: “The star-studded event honored three of Hollywood’s finest who have helped to change and inspire positive images of Black women in television and film — both in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes.”

It continued, ““The icon whose career as a writer, producer and world renowned actor spans seven decades, Ruby Dee was one of the three extraordinary African- American women honored, during the Essence luncheon.”

“Other honorees in the category of film were Jada Pinkett Smith, one of Hollywood’s most versatile and gifted actress/director/producer/screenwriters; in the category of Television, prolific screenwriter/producer Suzanne de Passe; as well as the talented, young performer Jurnee Smollett.

These honors coincide with Essence releasing it’s Hollywood Issue.

Prada Breaks its No Black Models Streak

Written by Celebrity Blogger on February 20, 2008 – 12:10 pm -

jourdanprada.jpgThe last time Prada had a black model walk their runway was when Naomi Campbell walked back in the 90’s.

17 year old Jourdan Dunn changed that by being the first black model to walk to Prada runway in nearly 15 years.

Wow, I know black models aren’t that scarce.

In an interview with This is London, Dunn said, “London’s not a white city so why should our catwalks be so white? I go to castings and see several black and Asian girls, then I get to the show and look around and there’s just me and maybe one other coloured face.”
