Rashida Jones is my girl right now. Here’s what she had to say on the state of our young girls.

“I think about what it would be like to have a daughter now, one who is influenced by Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears - and, ugh, it’s so depressing…Where are the other young Hollywood role models who are cool, smart, and out there doing something with their lives? Maybe Miley Cyrus? There’s a definite responsibility that comes with being famous. You shouldn’t be able to just…look pretty.” _Source

AMEN to that! I was actually having a conversation about this very topic the other day. Parents need to be more involved in the shaping of their children.

With all these negative influences on TV, the radio, the internet, and magazines; parents REALLY have to make an effort to ensure that kids aren’t going around thinking that being dumb and cute is cool. It’s not something you can just sit back and say “I raised my kid right”, you actually have to make sure your kids are involved in constructive activities and make sure they are around positive people. Gone are the days where you could sit back and think your kids would turn out like you.

It’s a battle out there and something is going to get their attention. Would you rather it be something you chose, or something they chose with a little assistance from peer pressure?
