Is this going to be the Dreamgirls of 2008 in terms of popularity and star power?

I don’t know but Ciara and Lynn Whitfield star in the remake of Mama I Want to Sing. It’s the story of a preacher’s daughter who rises from the church choir to international pop superstardom.

The play ran from 1983-1991but it wasn’t on Broadway. It was originally rejected by every major producer in New York.

The movie opens April 11th 2008 and also features Patti LaBelle, Juanita Bynum, Hill Harper, Ben Vereen, Billy Zane, Kim Porter, Ralph Tresvant, Ross Francis, Shonda Farr
